PennDOT District 6 is inviting the public to attend a public plans display meeting to learn about the planned rehabilitation of the Frankford Avenue Bridge over Frankford Creek. You will be able to view the proposed projects plans and meet members of the design team, who will be available to answer questions and collect feedback from the community.
The meeting will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 5pm-7pm at the Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School Cafeteria, 1840 Torresdale Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19124 (enter the cafeteria from Jasper Street).
The project to rehabilitate the Frankford Avenue bridge over Frankford Creek is currently in preliminary engineering. The proposed improvements include the replacement of the bridge superstructure and reuse of the existing bridge abutments. Protective railing will be added between the sidewalk and Frankford Creek along East Hunting Park Avenue. The bridge superstructure design includes a decorative railing to mirror the existing railing.
Without seeing the details of the plan we think this is a good opportunity to provide easy fixes to the intersection of E Hunting Park Ave and Frankford Ave. Which is a dangerous 3-legged intersection with unmarked crosswalks at the Route 5 bus stop which many Bracetti Charter School Students use to get to school. We think that restricting through traffic on E Hunting Park between Torresdale and Frankford Avenues would make it safer. The sidewalk on both sides of the bridge are often blocked by auto-oriented businesses. Pedestrian improvements would be in vain if these issues are not addressed.
