Open Streets. On Thursday, Radio Times with Marty Moss-Coane discussed the plan to bring Open Streets to Philadelphia. The conversation was a very positive one, and featured Denise Goren from the Philadelphia Streets Department, Inga Saffron from the Inquirer, Nate Hommel from Open Streets PHL, and Mayor Michael Nutter. Bicyclist killed by hit-and-run driver. On October 1st at approximately 11 PM Gordon Vanderburg, 56 was riding his bicycle through the intersection of B and Ontario Streets in West Kensington when he was struck and killed by a driver that left the scene of the crash.

Watch your bike. Fox 29 reported this week that bike thefts are on the rise in South Philadelphia.

Speaking of Sunday: Down in D.C., a church is attempting to stop a bike lane from being installed, arguing religious freedom. “The parking loss would place an unconstitutionally undue burden on people who want to pray, the church argues, noting that other churches already have had to flee to the suburbs because of similarly onerous parking restrictions.”
