In 2026, Philadelphia marks ten years as a Vision Zero city, grounded in the belief that traffic deaths are preventable and that safe streets are a shared responsibility. Since its launch, Vision Zero has equipped the city with proven tools—data-driven design, policy reform, and cross-agency collaboration—that are doing what they were intended to do: save lives.

Despite notable progress, there is still much work ahead. Philadelphians are still twice as likely to be killed by a vehicle as San Franciscans and nearly three times more likely than New Yorkers—disparities that underscore the urgency of coordinated and renewed efforts in the City.

But Vision Zero goes beyond lives saved. When our streets are designed with people’s safety in mind, they become places that support dignity, opportunity, and belonging. Presented by the Philadelphia Parking Authority, the 2026 Vision Zero PHL Conference, themed “Putting Community First: Revolutionizing Street Safety,” invites participants to explore how the physical, social, and economic city converge and what’s possible when community needs and lived experiences guide decisions. By sharing stories alongside strategies, the conference aims to build consensus and spark lasting shifts in values, policies, and institutions so safety becomes a foundation for collective well-being.

About the Vision Zero PHL Conference:

The annual Vision Zero PHL Conference brings together industry and community leaders in the areas of public health, engineering, and urban planning. Over the course of two plenary sessions and six break-out sessions, speakers and attendees exchange ideas, discuss innovative policies, and present projects that address the changing societal landscape as our city seeks to eliminate traffic fatalities.

What is Vision Zero?

The goal of Vision Zero is to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes that occur in Philadelphia each year, with the goal of eliminating traffic deaths. Vision Zero policies aim to make all road users feel safe and protected.
