There are two exciting events this Spring that focus on improved cycling in Delaware County. If you’re a Bicycle Coalition member (or not!) in DelCo, check them out:

April 28th: Presentation on the new Delaware County Open Space, Recreation and Greenway Plan

On Tuesday, April 28th, Bike Delaware County, the organization within the Bicycle Coalition of Great Philadelphia that focuses exclusively on bicycling developments in Delaware County, will hold a meeting focusing on new open space, recreation and the Greenway Plan in the county.

The speakers will be Karen Holm, Manager of Environmental Planning for Delaware County; and Tom Shaffer, Manager of Transportation Planning for Delaware County. Their topics will be the new “Delaware County Open Space, Recreation, and Greenway Plan.” They will share the highlights of this just-completed plan, with an emphasis on the County’s plans for greenway and trails. A copy of the plan, which is open for comment until April 19, can be found at here.

If you would like to learn more about some exciting developments affecting cycling in Delaware County and meet others who are concerned with improving bicycling infrastructure in the County, I hope you will attend.  The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at the Furness Public Library, 100 North Providence Road in Wallingford from 7:15 to 8:45 pm.

May 14th: Delaware County Mapathon

This “Mapathon” event, presented by the Bicycle Coalition/Bike Delaware County, is your chance to help map safe(r) bicycling routes in Delaware County. If you’re a cyclist with knowledge of safe(r), low-stress streets to ride in Delaware County, we need your help! This session, which will be led by John Boyle of the Bicycle Coalition and Rich Kerr of Bike Delaware County, will be a fun way to ‘crowd source’ a set of maps of safe(r) bicycling routes in Delaware County and to get them on-line for use by everyone looking for the roads less traveled.

Our thanks to Parker Snowe (one of our Bike Delaware County members) and Haverford College for hosting this event which will be held at Haverford College’s Stokes Hall, Room 118K on Thursday evening, May 14 from 7:00 – 9:30 pm. RSVP for this event here.
