This just came in from the Streets Department. Schuylkill River Trail Crossings will be closed for track work starting Tuesday, August 1st. Please plan accordingly.
PHILADELPHIA – Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today the grade crossings at Race and Locust Streets gates to the Schuylkill Trail will be closed and locked beginning Tuesday, August 1 at 7:00 am for approximately one week. The emergency closure is necessary to accommodate work being completed by CSX. CSX will be working on replacing rail ties along the Schuylkill River Trail between Locust and Race Streets.
Signs explaining the closure will be posted to notify users of the gates. During the closure the overhead bridge next to the Locust St crossing will remain open for trail users to access the trail.
The Streets Department apologizes for any inconvenience and will reopen the crossings as soon as CSX has restored the crossings to a safe condition.
