COUNTDOWN TO THE (1)

We’re all really excited about the Manyunk Bridge Trail’s opening on Friday, October 30. This long awaited re-purposing of a SEPTA bridge, originally built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1902, is a multi-county improvement project that will connect Philadelphia to Montgomery County via a bike/ped-only bridge over the Schuylkill River.

The opening ceremony will take place at 11am on Friday. And we at the Coalition want to invite cyclists from the city and Montgomery County to enjoy the festivities. Therefore, we’re leading two rides to the bridge that morning—one from Center City, Philadelphia; and one from Bala Cynwyd, PA. Continue reading to learn more about the meeting spots and directions to the bridge.

Ride from Cynwyd Station

Members of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia will be at the Cynwyd Station café at 10:00 on Friday, October 30. From the gathering spot, we will leave promptly at 10:20am, and ride along the Circuit trail, directly to the bridge.

Check out the trail route in this map below.

Ride from Center City

Members of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia staff will be meeting at the Locust Street Railroad Crossing at Locust and 25th Street, near the entrance to the Schuylkill River Trail, at 9am. We will leave promptly at 9:20am.

To get to the bridge from this entrance, riders will use the Schuylkill River Trail and Kelly Drive. We will then bike on the road along Main Street Manayunk, make a right onto Green Lane, to Baker Street, to Dupont Street.

Anyone who wants to ride independently should enter on the Philadelphia side via the corner of Dupont Street and High Street.

UPDATE: Officials are asking bicyclists to park their bikes at the ends of the bridge until the ribbon cutting ceremony is complete. There will be temporary bike racks on both sides to park your bicycle.
